Uncle Evon, thank you for doing all that you did not have to do, but did anyway...with me. The measure of a man. Rest well and in peace, may you find comfort with the angels.

I thought of you today but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before too. I often speak your name all I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake from which I'll never part. God has you in His arms, I have you in my heart.

Gratitude is a must - Indeed. So, I say I appreciate all the sacrifices you've made, Dad, to ensure that we were taken care of. Now as a parent myself I understand better the sacrifices that are required of us for our children. You made those sacrifices to ensure we were properly schooled, fed, clothed, and more. I can still hear you laughing about the expense of my maths lessons. I also thank you for the support you gave to me personally for my ministry, and business, or for my columns or books. I figure you are busy now playing somebody's saxophone, or clarinet if you haven't been given your own by now. Yes, you've always been committed to trying your hand at instruments. Well, your audience is now much bigger, enjoy the concert. And enjoy the newness. I'm now wondering what I did with the CD you made for me... But thanks also for being present. You made the gallant effort to attend my football matches and more. Thanks, Dad for doing your best to be the best. Now enjoy the presence of the Lord.

Uncle Evon Brodber- A remarkable man; though like all of us, dichotomous in nature. Not given to pretense or mockery, you could hold the sticky end of the rod, on any day. His heart was always in the right place, tho. His thoughts, however, were seldom silent. I remember how he spoke, “his truth” to his children and the extras, present. He articulated with sound Jamaican aphorisms and literal experience. Impressionable minds eagerly yielded to his encouragement or chastisement with equal fervour. He didn’t shy away from unpopular decisions; personal and otherwise. He was forthright; a leader and thinker who stood his ground-win, float or fail. Intertwined in all the ‘boss energy” was an approachable, results-driven stalwart who worked at realizing his ambitions in business and serving others. The sum total of his efforts, he hoped, would make Jamaica a better place. Uncle Evon was affable and welcoming- even when the fledging, feisty youngsters in his charge, put his commitment and love to the test. Wavering never in his role as, daddy to Steven, Sherille, Robert, Chris and Tonni he doted, guided and embraced their growth with fierce, protective love… What an awesome man!! Your earthly work is complete. You will live on in our memories. Rest now …
